Job Description
Our Windsor based automotive client is seeking to hire a Product Engineering Manager. This role is directly responsible for the planning, designing and development of product and projects within the department. He/she leads the development of the department including: performance management, hiring, recruiting and ensuring necessary training for projects is completed. The Manager of Product Engineering coordinates and directs projects, staff and sets goals, budgets and timelines for active projects.

Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and direct projects, making detailed plans to accomplish goals and directing the integration of technical activities.
- Analyze technology, resources needs, and market demand, to plan and assess the feasibility of projects.
- Direct, review, and approve product design and changes.
- Recruit employees; assign, direct, and evaluate their work; and oversee the development and maintenance of staff competence.
- Develop and implement policies, standards and procedures for the engineering and technical work performed in the department, service, laboratory or firm.
- Perform administrative functions such as reviewing and writing reports, approving expenditures, enforcing rules, and making decisions about the purchase of materials or services.
- Review and recommend or approve contracts with customers and suppliers.
- Directly communicate with customers to present and explain proposals, reports, and findings.
- To direct and coordinate the development of long and short range programs based on sound engineering and economic principles, to ensure assignments and projects are completed safely and efficiently.
- Direct the coordination of special projects such as R&D and concept designs within the Product Engineering Department.
- Supervise bid process; after budget approval, assigns projects to engineering staff; sets priorities and adjusts workload accordingly.
- Prepares and updates project engineering procedures.
- Monitors progress against project schedules and budgets; recommends allocation of resources as required to accomplish goals.
- Monitors engineering aspects of program start-ups; ensures project start-up plans and required documentation are completed and coordinated with Operations and Quality Department personnel.
- Prepares the annual budget request for the program; estimates staffing, equipment supply needs based upon recent trends and planned activities.
Qualifications:
- 5-10 years of Product Engineering experience
- Demonstrated understanding of engineering theories and principles
- 3-5 years experience in an Engineering Department with direct responsibility for the design and/or construction portion of the department
- Pro-E Wildfire 3, NX8.5 and / or Catia v5 experience preferred.
- Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing with all levels of the organization, including executives
- Must be able to make decisions and solving problems -- Analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
- Ability to interpret and implement company policies and procedures
- Demonstrated ability to exercise necessary cost control measures
- Effective leadership skills required
