Job Description

Provincial Long Term Care operates five retirement and long-term care homes in Ontario. Their retirement homes offer light care and services to residents who are largely independent but require basic housekeeping, meal and medication management services. Their long-term care homes offer 24 hour care for individuals with higher care needs and are licensed by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.

About the Opportunity

Provincial Long Term Care is seeking a professional and enthusiastic individual to join their team as an Assistant Controller in Windsor, Ontario

Reporting to and assisting the Controller, you will be accountable for all phases of accounting through trial balance and financial statements, including, but not limited to, bank deposits and reconciliations, cheque preparation, taxes, accounts payable and receivable, job costing, general ledger and financial analysis, payroll and benefit review and analysis. You will also assist in the preparation of the year-end files for the auditors for all corporate books.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Performing financial audits;
  • Providing technical support for accounting program software;
  • Participating in the hiring, evaluation, and counselling of Business Office Managers at the Nursing Homes and Retirement Homes in conjunction with the Controller and the Administrator of the facility;
  • Supervising and managing all Business Office functions for the Nursing Homes and Retirement Homes as assigned (in conjunction with the Controller and the Administrator of the home);
  • Preparing the yearly Ministry of Health reports and supporting documentation as directed by the Controller;
  • Making the Operational Manager of assigned homes and Board of Directors aware of any and all variances from the Ministry of Health budgets, and working with them to ensure that costs equal budgeted amounts; and
  • Assisting in the development, creation and implementation of policies and procedures where and as required.

As our ideal candidate, it would be a definite asset if you have a related degree and/or are working toward a recognized accounting designation; however, we will consider candidates with equivalent experience. 

Along with sound knowledge of accounting and computer systems/applications and networks (particularly Sage ERP), you will need to be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite 2013. Cost accounting experience would be highly regarded. 

Able to multi-task and thrive in a dynamic environment with regular interruptions, you have strong organizational and problem-solving skills and are an effective team player. 

A valid driver's licence and access to a reliable vehicle are required.
