Job Description

Hospitality Services consists of five distinct divisions - Campus Operations, Conference Services, Residence Dining, Great Hall Catering and Vending Services.  We have over 600 employees working in the various divisions, servicing over 23,000 customers daily in 20 campus operations. We pride ourselves in providing our guests with a wide variety of options and choices, including many of your favourite franchises.  We are currently seeking part-time interactive cooks to join the Hospitality Services Team!

The Interactive Cook is responsible for preparing appealing hot, cold and made-to-order dishes.  The incumbent will be in a frontline position responsible for providing exceptional customer service, often preparing foods like pasta and stir fry to order in the presence of customers (interactive cooking).  The incumbent may be required to assist in the preparation of breakfast, lunch and dinner items. Specific duties include washing, cutting and preparing foods designated for cooking;  maintaining a sanitary and organized work station environment; cleaning cooking utensils, grills, oven hoods, fryers and other equipment used in food preparation.

Qualifications
Education:
-   Grade 12 Ontario Secondary School Diploma

Experience:
-   One year commercial or institutional cooking experience

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
-   Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
-   Exceptional customer service skills with a positive, professional attitude and genuine  customer service orientation
-   Demonstrated ability to safely operate kitchen equipment and practice safe knife skills
-   Ability to perform duties in a professional and safe manner, adhering to WHMIS, HACCP and food safety practices
-   Ability to perform physically demanding work and physically capable of prolonged standing, pushing, pulling, lifting, carrying up to 20 kg
-   Strong skills in oral and written communication with an ability to comprehend verbal and written instructions, including recipes
-   Proven ability and natural inclination to respond courteously to instruction, questions and comments
-   Ability to establish and build healthy relations and partnerships with customers, peers and supervisors
-   Demonstrated dependability and cooperative nature
