We currently have the following career opportunity:

Health & Safety Specialist (full-time)

Location: GTA or London, ON

The Health & Safety Specialist role contributes to the overall wellness, health and safety of our staff and is responsible for the creation and implementation of company health, safety and wellness initiatives and programs.  Key aspects of the role include education, investigations, auditing and reporting.  Certification and/or relevant experience in Health & Safety, Wellness, HR and training required.

Expectations of the role include (but are not limited to):

  • Conduct risk assessments and site inspection audits of local operations.
  • Develop and implement the company Health, Safety and Wellness Program including relevant policies, procedures, standard operating procedures and enforcement measures.
  • Source, create and deliver training and educational programs.
  • Perform site and vehicle safety audits and inspections.
  • Provide incident/accident response and investigation.
  • Manage occupational related leaves and return to work programs.
  • Liaise between company and law enforcement officers/inspectors.
  • Chair Joint Health and Safety committees, maintain records and monitor follow up actions as necessary for compliance.
  • Create relevant reports for the Joint Health and Safety Committee and others including insurance, board compliance, incident summaries, driver abstract reviews, NEER, SDS, etc.

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate university degree and/or post-secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety; CRSP certified or relevant H&S or HR, preferred.
  • Health & Safety experience or equivalent proven transferrable skills (5 + years).
  • Excellent knowledge of Health & Safety relevant legislation including Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, Compensation Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, etc.
  • Joint Health & Safety Committee Member Certification (renewed as appropriate) required; up to date CPR/First Aid and Mental Health First Aid required; or ability to obtain.
  • Proven mechanical aptitude with ability to understand basics of technical equipment; understanding of ergonomics considered a strong asset.
  • Professional, independent person with strong organizational and interpersonal skills; strong computer and verbal/ written communication skills.

Essential Business Needs:  Ability to travel as required; including after hours and some overnight.  Must hold a valid G Ontario driver’s license (minimum of 3 years full privilege) in satisfactory standing.

Hours of work:  Monday to Friday, 9:00am-5:00pm.  Some flexibility in hours will be required to meet business needs.
