The Western Information Systems Group (WISG) is responsible for the support, maintenance, and development of the Oracle/PeopleSoft Enterprise administrative applications at Western. We work in partnership with Advancement Services, the School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies, Financial Services, Human Resources, Information Technology Services, the Office of the Registrar, Research Western and Facilities Management to promote and support the development of administrative systems and re-engineering of operational processes. 

The Database and Systems Administrator (DBA), Team Leader works collaboratively with other members of WISG and University business unit partners to implement, maintain, and enhance corporate applications and databases. The DBA, Team Leader also works closely with the WISG DBAs to lead, mentor, and work as part of the team to achieve these goals. The incumbent uses a diverse background and expertise to work with/diagnose all layers of infrastructure that enable supported application environments (including core infrastructure outside of WISG control) to achieve operational goals. 

Qualifications 
Education:
-   Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Information Systems or Business

Experience:
-   5 years working with relational database management products
-   5 years working with Oracle/PeopleSoft applications and tools or similar enterprise applications
-   10 years in IT industry with broad experience with application, server, storage, networking and operating systems technologies
-   5 year direct management experience in an IT/Business environment
-   Experience within a University environment preferred
 
Skills & Expertise:
-   In-depth knowledge of database technologies and tools (Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server), operating systems (UNIX, Linux, and Windows - Client and Server) and Oracle PeopleSoft infrastructure
-   Knowledge of Backup/Recovery procedures, networking and load balancing
-   Expertise in use of development tools, e.g. People Tools 
-   Solid understanding of programming languages and scripting
-   Exceptional organizational skills, including managing multiple competing priorities from multiple units, in a fast paced environment
-   Excellent analytical and superior problem solving skills
-   Strong relationship management, influencing and collaboration skills
-   Demonstrated coaching and mentoring skills to enable team members to achieve high-quality outcomes
-   Business acumen with an advanced understanding of quality standards relative to operational improvement, strategic planning and business growth
-   Demonstrated proficiency in project management methodologies
-   Exceptional thoroughness and accuracy 
-   Demonstrated strong communication, team and customer service skills and an ability to exercise sound judgment
-   Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to convey information of a highly technical or complex nature to non-technical audiences
-   Ability and willingness to stay abreast of technological developments
-   Demonstrated commitment to ongoing learning and professional development
-   A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation and conflict resolution skills
