JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE            Manager, Information Technology Services (Learning Support Services)
DEPARTMENT     Learning Support Services
SUPERVISOR       Superintendent of Student Achievement, Learning Support Services

 

 

POSITION SUMMARY

The Manager of Information Technology Services, Learning Support Services leads the academic and corporate Information Technology Services of the Board and has shared accountability with the Superintendent of Student Achievement for establishing and achieving the department’s strategic goals. The Manager provides leadership to supervisory staff assigned to specific portfolios such as service delivery, Information Technology architecture and systems management, and infrastructure development and maintenance, and supports the academic priorities of the district.


 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Demonstrates the leadership skills outlined in the accompanying document, “Manager Leadership in the TVDSB”.

  • Leads the corporate Information Technology functions of the Board to support high levels of innovation, effectiveness and service to schools and corporate systems while supporting the academic priorities of the district.

  • Collaborates with senior administration to align Information Technology planning strategies with the operational plan and educational priorities of the Board.

  • Provides leadership on all Information Technology related projects across the system.

  • Champions, researches and facilitates the acquisition and implementation of innovative technologies that support the department Strategic Plan.

  • Effectively manages the Information Technology Services operating and capital budget.

  • Provides appropriate resources to allow for the efficient and effective resolution of technical problems that impact the system in order to minimize adverse impacts on students and staff.

  • Prioritizes the development, implementation, monitoring and maintenance of security controls, processes, procedures and systems.

  • Ensures that operations comply with legislation regarding copyright, privacy, filtering, and appropriate use of computer technologies and are addressed as necessary though policy development, and/or change in practices.

  • Provides advice and leadership to senior administration and school administrators on issues which may impact the reputation of the Board.

  • Demonstrates strong oral and written communication skills and makes presentations to the Board of Trustees, senior administration, school communities and community organizations.

  • Leads a large and diverse high performing team through the development of a Strategic Plan, performance management, and goal-setting activities.

  • Contributes to the talent management and leadership development process by facilitating highly relevant training and professional learning opportunities for the Information Technology Services team as well as Board staff.

  • Establishes networks with colleagues, represents the Board at provincial meetings and organizations, and acts as an ambassador for the district across Ontario and beyond.

  • Reviews and makes recommendations regarding organization structure and design and contributes to the review and establishment of strategic priorities.

  • Pro-actively researches and stays abreast of current technologies, applications, and practices related to educational and corporate needs.

  • Ensures that all Information Technology equipment purchases align both with the overall Information Technology and Communications Strategic Plan as well as Board procurement practices.
  • Effectively and expeditiously provides leadership for the resolution of matters of concern so as to ensure the continuous operation of technological systems within the Board.


 

EDUCATION

Completion of a degree in computer science, engineering or a related field.

 

 

EXPERIENCE

Seven years of leadership experience in the management of Information Technology Services including responsibility for supervising staff or leading Information Technology teams is required.
