JOB TITLE: Planner, Planning Department
SALARY RANGE: $73,247-$96,867
HIRING RANGE: $73,247 - $93,488
DATE OF VACANCY: As soon as possible

POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Manager of Planning, the Planner provides planning expertise to the Thames Valley District School Board and plays a key role in the development of short and long-term plans for student accommodation.  This can include:  current and projected enrolments, review and provide comments on proposed residential developments, facility utilization and capital planning initiatives, school consolidations, and various planning methodologies to provide the optimum learning environment for student achievement compliant with Board policies and procedures. 

QUALIFICATIONS:
Completion of a four (4) year university degree in Urban and/or Regional Planning or a related discipline or equivalent.  Membership or eligibility for membership in the Ontario Professional Planners Institute and the Canadian Institute of Planners is an asset.  A minimum of four (4) years of demonstrated planning experience, preferably in the public sector is required.  School board planning experience and knowledge of the Ministry of Education processes as well as the Education Act are assets. Ability to exercise a high level of independence, integrity and confidentiality is required.

Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, problem-solving, research, analytical and presentation skills in public forums (internal and external stakeholders).

Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), GIS and web-based software applications.
 
The position requires use of the employee’s personal vehicle for travel to Board sites. All applicable travel is reimbursed according to Board policy and procedures using the Board’s posted mileage rate.
