Job Description

Facilities Management (FM) is responsible for the planning, development, construction, operation, maintenance and stewardship of all the buildings, infrastructure, sites and services within Western's campus community.
 
The Grounds Operator will be responsible for the maintenance of the University's turf, outdoor facilities, paved and garden areas. The incumbent will also assist in horticultural operations.  The Operator must provide efficient and courteous service to customers and support to their coworkers. The incumbent will also participate in winter control hours, regular hours, and call-in hours.
 
Qualifications
Education:
-   Minimum Ontario Secondary School Diploma
-   Maintain a valid D Ontario Driver's License with Z endorsement
-   Maintain a current First Aid Certificate including CPR
 
Experience:
-   Minimum 3 years working experience in the landscape construction and maintenance field
-   Minimum 3 years working experience with equipment associated with snow removal for institutional and commercial properties
-   Minimum 3 years working experience with loaders, dump trucks, and lawn care equipment
-   Associated experience with the maintenance of both hard and soft landscapes
 
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
-   In-depth understanding of tools, principles, materials, and terminology associated with the landscape maintenance trade
-   Understanding of equipment operation and hydraulic accessories
-   Basic understanding of other trades
-   Comprehensive electronic, oral and written communication skills
-   Dependable and co-operative
-   Ability to listen fully and respond courteously to instructions, questions and comments
-   Ability to establish a rapport with customers, supervisors, and peers
-   Ability to investigate, identify, analyse, and document information in written or electronic form and resolve problems
-   Ability to lift, bend, climb, transport and reach repetitively
-   Ability to work in confined spaces or in areas containing designated substances found within OH&S Act
-   Ability to organize and order work materials and tools
-   Ability to support staff in the shop and on the job site and initiate action in keeping with Department procedures
-   Ability to interpret and work from electronic/written operation instruction sheets and mechanical drawings
-   Ability to perform tasks in emergency situations
-   Ability to work in a team environment with minimal supervision
 
Prior to an offer of employment a current Police Information Check (PIC) will be required and proof of a clear driver's abstract.
