Fleet/Maintenance/310T Manager

Reports to Executive Management

Hours Normal Working Hours 44 hours, Monday to Friday; Weekends on call/rotation. The shop operation hours are 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. This position is required to support these hours ensuring you can maintain work life balance. Hours may vary to meet the employment objectives.

Other: Ability to respond to emergencies on a 24-hour, day a week basis; rotational on-call, carrying pager/cell; call-in/overtime as operations require

The Fleet /Maintenance/310T Manager is integral to our services and supported by a strong management team and a positive work environment our staff are proud of. This position reports directly to the Executive Management and is responsible for overseeing all fleet maintenance operations including: maintenance, contract compliance and ensure compliance with labour, safety, environmental and company policies and procedures. This position maintains and repairs engines, transmissions, and differentials, and related emission components. There are 40 pieces of equipment to work on and 6 different models of equipment.

Job Description

  • Ensure maintenance and preventative maintenance goals are met to maximize fleet up time.
  • Schedule fleet maintenance to ensure safe and reliable trucks are available to meet operational requirements
  • Track down time for all equipment
  • Troubleshoot and solve mechanical problems
  • Purchases parts and oversee all work orders
  • Oversee all work performed by repair vendors
  • Maintain yard and shop in accordance with company image and safety standards
  • Develop annual fleet life cycle plan based on evaluation of existing fleet vehicles and equipment in collaboration with General Manager
  • Manage and review all warranty claims
  • Maintain a safe work environment by communicating and complying with safe work practices and policies
  • Responsible to ensure products are accompanied by an SDS in collaboration with HR
  • Supervise maintenance staff and monitor work flow
  • Manage and coach staff assigned to fleet service (2 apprentices).
  • Schedule and coordinate maintenance staff orientation and on the job training.
  • Organize and schedule maintenance (internal, warranty, outsourced) activities, perform maintenance activities (scheduled, emergency and on call)
  • Schedule available equipment to cover operational needs
  • Perform and write annual safeties on equipment.
  • Source parts and supplies and compare pricing, delivery and return policies
  • Maintain & source shop equipment (Noblewood and Kingslea) in collaboration with General Manager
  • Maintain, schedule and supervise general repairs to grounds and building
  • Compile work orders and monitor repairs (analyze, troubleshoot and find the root cause)
  • Spec new equipment in conjunction with GM
  • Find efficiencies in maintenance practices and implement. Continuous Improvement.
  • Communicate to GM short- and long-term needs and level of importance for equipment, grounds and building
  • Relief driving as needed.
  • Manage and develop apprentices (2)
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills/Education Required

  • Secondary School Diploma
  • Possess and maintain a 310T Truck and Coach Technician License
  • 310S Automotive Service Technician License would be an asset
  • AZ license required with clean driver's abstract and CVOR
  • Minimum 5-7 years of related progressive experience as a heavy-duty truck or equipment mechanic
  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on mechanical supervisory experience
  • Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, WHMIS and safe work practices in a mechanic-shop environment
  • Must have strong verbal and written skills.
  • Ability to make sound decisions in a manner consistent with the essential job functions
  • Ability to work independently or as an effective member of a team
  • Effective oral communication and strong interpersonal skills to deal with members of the team, customers and the public.
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative consistently with commitment to quality improvement, sharing process improvement initiatives with management
  • Ability to guide and share knowledge with apprentices
  • Demonstrated time-management skills with the ability to prioritize workloads and meet deadlines
  • Possess and maintain a valid Ontario Class “A” Driver’s Licence with “Z” endorsement and acceptable driving record
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office, the internet, and any other related software
  • Upon a conditional offer of employment, an up to date Criminal Record Check, CVOR and Driver’s Abstract will be required

Salary: $90,000.00-$100,000.00 per year
