Qualifications/Skills Requirements
- Canadian Certified Customs Specialist Designation
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business or related field
- Minimum 10+ years of customs experience
- Experience leading a team
- Advanced level in Microsoft applications including Excel, Word, Access
- Strong understanding of valuation, NAFTA, classification, FTA’s, Assists and other customs areas
- Technical understanding of NAFTA solicitation and validation processes
- Strong technical knowledge of Harmonized Tariff Schedules and Explanatory Notes
- Self motivated and good with organizational and decision making skills
- Excellent problem solving, research and analytical skills
- Self-directed to meet planned objectives by effective scheduling and time management
- Effective communication and team building skills
- Ability to travel within Canada and the USA
What your Responsibilities will be:
- Analyze, assess and design processes to streamline operational functions within the Canadian Operations Department
- Establish and implement procedures to ensure compliance with Canadian Customs and other government agency regulations
- Offer expertise including recommendations regarding systems and process issues to the Management Team and Systems Development
- Understand entry system structure and identify tables and data required to create customer and operational reports
- Annual NAFTA communication to Buckland clients and management of received NAFTAs for prompt handling
- Tariff classification and research, including assistance with New Account Set-Up
- Database management, which includes tariff, vendors and NAFTAs, uploading and downloading of database details when applicable, meeting the required standards
- Report completion, as required including management of the Receiver General Report
- Maintenance and enhancement of the Buckland Quality System (BQS) including policy and procedure updates and documentation
- Professional company representation to external agencies including government, suppliers, client key contacts
- Research and resolve complex customer issues
- Offer expertise and assistance to the Canadian Operations team staff members
- NAFTA invoicing, E29B Management, and billing, Amend/refund review
- Other duties and responsibilities as required
