Position Description:
The bilingual editor position involves editing and French translation of technical documentation for a prescribed style and format on a daily basis. The position also includes formatting and layout reviews of technical manuals prior to delivery. Language reviews are performed on a variety of outputs, including Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETM) and other electronic mediums, such as PDF. The bilingual editor is required to provide accurate style and language markups within a budget and deadline and author these changes in XML-formatted technical manuals.
 
The successful candidate will be provided one-on-one editor training. This training includes, not only style guides and style/language-specific guidance, but also content management system user training and authoring software training (XML). While prior experience in these systems is an asset, GDLS-C Publication Services team includes this overview as part of base training.
 
The successful candidate will have the choice to work remotely.
 
Job Description:
 
As a bilingual writer,you will be in charge of the daily revision of the English text and its translation into French of technical documents in a prescribed style and format. You will also be responsible for checking the format and layout of technical manuals prior to delivery. Language revisions are performed on various products, including electronic interactive technical manuals (IETM) and other electronic medium such as PDF. As a bilingual writer,you will need to ensure accurate revision style and annotations within a budget and deadline, and make changes to technical manuals in XML format.
 
As a successful candidate, you will receive individual writer training. We will not only offer you training on style guides and stylistic/language instructions, but also on the use of a content management system and editing software (XML). While previous experience with these systems is an asset, GDLS-C's publishing services team will address this overview as part of the initial training.
 
The successful candidate will have the choice to work remotely.

Position Requirements:

Required Qualifications:
  • University degree/College Diploma in English and/or French language, or in a related field
  • Bilingual (English/English)
  • A desire to put their language degree and related experience into practical use
  • Working experience in editing, translating, copy editing, proofreading, and/or related discipline
  • Excellent organization and prioritization skills
  • A bias for working independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Willingness to learn technical skills as part of a highly skilled team
  • An openness to learn something new every day
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Working knowledge of an additional language, with preference given to Spanish and/or Arabic
  • Experience in a technical field, such as engineering or automotive industry
  • Français editing certification by an accredited organization
  • Working knowledge of XML or other markup languages
  • Experience working within a content management system
  • Familiarity with military standards

  • Four-year university degree, or higher, in English and/or French, or a related field
  • Bilingualism (English/French)
  • Desire to practice their language degree and/or related experience
  • Professional experience in editing, translation, proofreading, and/or related disciplines

  • Preference to work independently in a dynamic environment
  • Willingness to learn technical skills by being part of a highly qualified team

GDLS-C prefers candidates who also have:
  • Working knowledge of an additional language, with a preference given to the Spanish and/or Arabic language

  • Certification in English language revision by an accredited body
  • Working knowledge of XML or other typographically suggested languages
  • Experience working in a content management system
