Low-German Mennonite Re-Engagement Support Worker–Temporary Position
July 2021


RATE OF PAY: $36.44 per hour, plus 4% vacation pay
DATE OF VACANCY: September 1 2021 – no later than June 29, 2022
 (This position is dependent upon continued funding)
LOCATION: Elgin/Oxford County

POSITION SUMMARY:

As a member of the Learning Support Services team, the Low-German Mennonite Re-Engagement Support Worker will work with schools and LGM families from kindergarten to grade 12 across the district to identify family barriers to re-engagement. They will work in collaboration with school teams to devise a plan that is responsive to family needs within the parameters of TVDSB policies and procedures as well as within the confines of local public health recommendations related to current COVID protocols.

The LGM Re-Engagement Support Worker will be required to drive to schools and families across Elgin and possibly Oxford Counties. They will also, where needed assist with the facilitation of liaising between school and the family. 


AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

Working directly with schools and the Mennonite community to support and mentor a transition into school. Responsibilities may include:
  • Building positive relationships with Mennonite families by identifying barriers and solutions to student learning, engagement, and well-being
  • Facilitating programs, services, and other supports to meet individual student needs
  • Assisting in the tracking of data
  • Working with Principals, and school teams to remove barriers to student well-being, engagement and learning
  • Working with families and community members in support of Mennonite students
  • Building/establishing relationships with the Mennonite communities
  • Assisting families in connecting with community resources
  • Working with community partners to establish opportunities for students
  • Locating and creating opportunities to build relationships with Mennonite students and families through community events

HOURS OF WORK: 35 hours per week

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:
Successful completion of a two (2) year degree or diploma in Social Sciences, Family Support/Community Worker, or related field; familiarity with the local Low-German Mennonite community experience collaborating with the Low-German Mennonite Community to be considered in lieu of education. The successful candidate will need to possess communication skills in both English and Low-German. Access to a reliable vehicle and a valid driver’s license are required.
