COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST
             
JOB TITLE: Communications Specialist (2 positions)
LOCATION: Education Centre, London
SALARY RANGE: $63,172 - $83,542
HIRING RANGE: $63,172 - $80,628
DATE OF VACANCY: As soon as possible

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Communications Specialist is responsible for communications planning and execution. This includes research, goal creation, objectives, key messages, branding, content development, and executing on all tactical requirements of the communications plan – the complete integrated marketing communications approach. The Communications Specialist is the link between the Thames Valley District School Board and its key stakeholders (internal and external) through the effective use of written and visual communication strategies.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide support/strategic advice to senior administration and school administrators regarding the communication and marketing of programs and initiatives to stakeholders
  • Monitor and reply to inquiries from school administrators, employees, media, community organizations, etc., regarding the Thames Valley District School Board and its’ programs
  • Plan, create and revise the Board marketing tools (Board and school websites, social media platforms, annual report, operating and strategic plans, etc.)
  • Researching and writing content, including speeches, news releases, brochures, website copy, social media copy, etc.
  • Develop integrated marketing communications campaigns to build the Board brand, promote educational programs and initiatives and recruit students to the system.
  • Develop and present content to support communications and marketing projects, including scripts and storyboards.
  • Work collaboratively with and provide direction to Graphic Services staff in project implementation.
  • Develop and provide writing and other content for social media, internet and intranet communications.
  • Support and participate as a contributing member of the strategic communications team.
  • Lead the development of advertising campaigns to recruit students from the early years and into secondary school.
  • Conduct research and develop measurement of communication success.
  • Liaise with Superintendents to identify communications needs and plan effective communication strategies.
  • Champion and demonstrate creative and innovative approaches to communication.
  • Collaborate with the Coordinator, Public Affairs to positively position the Board in the media.
  • Provide support to the Manager, Communications and the Coordinator, Public Affairs to prepare and deliver messaging with respect to high profile or crisis communications.

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE: 
  • Proficient in computer applications such as Outlook 365, MS Office Suite, etc.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with effective communication skills, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Sound knowledge of corporate communication practices
  • Familiar with content design programs, such as InDesign, Photoshop
  • Ability to manage and adhere to project timelines
  • Proficient in social media platforms, website editing and content management
  • Ability to present in both small and large groups
  • Completion of a four (4) year university degree program in communications, marketing or public relations, or a three (3) year university degree combined with a one (1) year post-secondary program in communications, marketing or public relations or equivalent
  • Three (3) years of related work experience is required
