Strathroy-Caradoc… Urban Opportunity, Rural Hospitality.

The Municipality of Strathroy-Caradoc’s Building and Planning Department is currently accepting applications for one (1) temporary “By–Law Enforcement Officer” on a two-year contract.

Position Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Director of Building and Planning, the By-Law Enforcement Officer will be responsible for enforcing the various regulating By-Laws of the Municipality including but not limited to; parking, zoning, noise, property standards and statutes including the Weed Control Act, to ensure the Health and Safety of the public by maintaining acceptable standards.

As a member of the Municipal team, each employee is responsible for serving the citizens of Strathroy-Caradoc by meeting the ratepayers’ needs and expectations, as articulated by Council, by striving to be the best in everything we do through attitude, training and creativity, and for representing the Municipality as a strong, integrated organization dedicated to quality, sustainable and viable services.

Qualifications:
  • Post-secondary education in either Police Foundations, Law and Security or related field.
  • • One (1) to two (2) years’ experience in By-law enforcement or other applicable related experience.
  • A working knowledge of legal and court procedures for prosecutions.
  • Understands and ensures compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulations, and any Municipality policies and procedures.
  • A working knowledge of the Provincial Offences Act.
  • Computer literacy utilizing the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and virtual meeting platforms.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate courteously and effectively, both orally and in writing, with all levels of staff, elected officials, court officials, consultants, contractors and the general public
  • Valid First Aid and CPR (preferred).
  • Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), and Conflict Management training (an asset).
  • Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Must have a valid class “G” Ontario Driver’s licence with a satisfactory driver’s abstract.
  • Provide proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 prior to starting employment.
  • A satisfactory Criminal Record Check prior to starting employment.
