Job Description

Thames Valley Children's Centre is the regional rehabilitation Centre serving children and youth with physical disabilities, communication, and developmental needs in 10 counties of Southwestern Ontario. We are a community-oriented Centre providing assessment, diagnosis, consultation and therapy. We serve more than 8,000 children, ranging from newborn to young adults, every year. Our research, creativity and innovations have made us pioneers in the treatment and management of disabilities and special needs.

We are seeking a temporary, full-time (37.5 hours/week) ASD Community Consultant in Autism Services, Windsor office. The successful candidate will provide services in Essex County; some travel will be required within Southwestern Ontario.  Some evening and weekend work may be required.  This fixed-term contract position is expected to begin in September 2016 and end in September 2017.

Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will:
  • Partner with families, the school board ABA Facilitators, the school educators and the IBI team to develop and implement an individualized “Connections for Students:  transition plan for children transitioning into school
  • Provide clinical, evidence-based services and supports to clients who are eligible for IBI and their families, as they proceed through the range of Autism Services [i.e., Parent Education, Getting Ready for IBI (GRIBI), Parent Coaching, and Connections for Students] according to the Service Delivery Models of each program
  • Whenever possible, assume the role and responsibilities of primary contact for parents and caregivers from the start of GRIBI until shortly after discharge from Connections for Students
  • Facilitate Parent Education workshops in addition to providing ABA-based information, education and training presentations to community service providers (including preparation and evaluation processes)
  • Work collaboratively and maintain strong relationships with community service providers (including TVCC staff), educators and community partners (e.g., recreation, leisure) to support the families to identify, revise (as needed) and accomplish their goals.
Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in a health or social sciences field and Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA).  We will also consider candidates with a related 4-year undergraduate degree who are working towards these qualifications and who have extensive experience applying the principles of ABA
  • An understanding of child development and the impact of Autism Spectrum Disorder on the development of behavioural, communication and social skills
  • Demonstrated ability to provide an adult-focused consultative/coaching model of service delivery
  • Advanced knowledge of Applied Behavioural Analysis (ABA) and demonstrated skills coaching others on ABA principles
  • Strong written and oral communication skills; ability to quickly establish trusting relationships, ability to receive and incorporate feedback; and, advanced self-reflection skills
  • Knowledge of community resources and supports
  • Strong computer skills; familiar with the MS Office Suite 2010 package of programs, especially Word and Excel
  • Proficiency in the French language would be considered an asset
  • A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle
  • Current certification in First Aid and CPR
