Job Description


The Department of Information Technology Services (ITS) is a central source committed to providing high-quality, cost-effective technology solutions and services to the campus community in support of the teaching and research missions of the University. ITS works collaboratively with other IT groups within Western's faculties and support units to leverage central supported technology solutions and services where it makes sense.
 
Classroom Technology Group (CTG) is responsible for the development, implementation and management of enterprise technologies for university teaching and learning spaces; including specification of classroom technology standards. The team provides ongoing support, both planned and reactive, to the Western Community. CTG collaborates with multiple stakeholders to deliver timely and effective results that contribute to an excellent classroom experience.
 
The Classroom Technology Analyst provides instructor education and support; makes stakeholders aware of the facilities; advances the understanding and operation of technologies  enhance teaching and learning in classrooms and presentation spaces. The incumbent provides timely solutions and support to student, faculty and staff who use technology in G.U. classrooms across campus.and applications installed in General University (G.U.) spaces.
 
The Classroom Technology Analyst sets up, configures, troubleshoots, maintains, and supports user-facing hardware, software, networked technologies and applications. In collaboration with the ITS eLearning Technology (eLT) team, the incumbent participates in Western eLearning initiatives and proactively researches and recommends new technologies to enhance teaching and learning in classrooms and presentation spaces. The incumbent provides timely solutions and support to student, faculty and staff who use technology in G.U. classrooms across campus.
 
Qualifications
Education:
-   College diploma in an information technology field or a university degree with a minor in an information technology field
-   Relevant certifications in Information Technology subjects (ex: A+ certification, Microsoft Certified Professional, etc)  is preferred
-   Knowledge of digital/media technology production with a design component is preferred
 
Experience:
-   5 years' current computer support experience including a variety of operating system software, hardware, application software, and networking experience using workstations, laptops, mobile devices, and servers
-   Previous front-line technical support experience within a higher-education or corporate environment is preferred
-   Live event and/or media production experience is preferred
 
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
-   Excellent overall communication skills to effectively interact with technical and non-technical end-users
-   Ability to understand client needs and expectations and provide excellent customer service directly and indirectly to satisfy expectations
-   Capable of developing and implementing effective tools and training to provide essential knowledge and enhance user adoption
-   Experience in setting up, configuring and demonstrating user-facing hardware, software, media, and presentation technologies
-   Strong understanding of TCP/IP and web-based tools to manage, and monitor equipment performance
-   Knowledge of computer system administration, including computer networks, operating systems, and application software
-   Good understanding of audio-visual system architecture and operation
-   Competence to troubleshoot and resolve computer system, and application issues in classroom technology
-   Excellent organizational skills to provide planned and reactive maintenance, aptitude to identify and apply corrective measures to equipment and systems
-   Ability to provide ancillary assistance with rack building, equipment & hardware assembly; cable preparation, project setup and other site-support activities
-   Expert knowledge in the configuration, and administration of Microsoft Windows OS, Apple OS, and iOS hardware, software environments and applications
-   Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
-   Proven ability to multi-task and prioritize with an eye to consistently produce high-quality work and to meet deadlines under demanding circumstances
-   Flexibility to work outside of regular business hours
-   Aptitude and willingness to continue in professional development aligned with the role and the organization's strategic objectives
-   Judgment, analytical and problem solving skills with a consultative and collaborative approach to addressing issues and opportunities
-   Ability and willingness to stay abreast of technological developments
-   Critical thinking and discernment to assess and scope areas for improvement and an ability to offer creative solutions
-   Application of project management best practices as defined by the unit
-   Able to write clear, concise "how-to" and procedural documentation
-   Demonstrated ability to prepare and make small presentations to colleagues and clients
