Job Description

Facilities Management (FM) is responsible for the planning, development, construction, operation, maintenance and stewardship of all the buildings, infrastructure, sites and services within Western's campus community.
 
The Groundsperson will be responsible for the maintenance of the University's turf, outdoor facilities, paved and garden areas, and will also assist in horticultural operations as well as snow removal during the winter season. The incumbent must provide efficient and courteous service to customers and support to their coworkers. The incumbent will also participate in winter control hours, regular hours, and call-in hours.
 
Qualifications
Education:
-   Minimum Ontario Secondary School diploma
-   Maintain a valid G Ontario Driver's License
-   Maintain a current First Aid Certificate including CPR
-   Basic understanding of other trades

Experience:
-   Minimum 3 years working experience in a landscape construction and maintenance environment
-   Working experience with equipment associated with manual snow removal for institutional and commercial properties
-   Working experience with small lawn care equipment, snow blowers, grounds related equipment

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
-   In depth understanding of tools, principles, materials and terminology associated with grounds equipment and maintenance
-   Mechanical aptitude
-   The ability to perform work with supplied vehicle
-   The ability to perform physical labour, bending, digging, lifting, transporting, reaching, twisting and raking
-   The ability to investigate, identify, analyze and resolve problems
-   The ability to work in a team environment with minimal supervision, perform under pressure and follow departmental procedures
-   Must be able to communicate clearly both orally and in writing
 
Prior to an offer of employment a current Police Information Check (PIC) will be required and proof of a clear driver's abstract.
