Superintendent of Human Resources

Play a leading role at the helm of an innovative and service-oriented Human Resources team, ensuring that the Thames Valley District School Board can "build each student's tomorrow, every day.”

Thames Valley District School Board is one of the largest boards of education in Ontario, covering Elgin, Oxford and Middlesex Counties, and including the City of London. With approximately 84,000 students, more than 11,900 teachers, principals and support staff, and an operating budget of $1.1 Billion, the Board is also one of the largest employers in southwestern Ontario.

As Superintendent of Human Resources, you will be a key member of the Board’s senior leadership team, guiding the department to proactively meet the needs of Board staff, Trustees and students.  You are a strategic and systems thinker who enjoys building capacity in employees and promotes equitable practices.

Reporting to the Associate Director of Organizational Support Services, you will provide strategic Human Resources advice to senior and mid-management staff, with a focus on ensuring organizational effectiveness and the achievement of departmental goals. Acting as the Board’s Chief Negotiator regarding collective bargaining agreements, you will be the lead on grievance decisions, arbitration, collective agreements, employment contract interpretation and negotiations.

A transformational HR professional, you believe in continuous improvement and have a modernization mindset for systems and technologies.   Talent management is a top priority for this Superintendent as the Board continues to invest in its’ people and culture.  You will be a trusted advisor to Principals, Vice Principals and Managers on a variety of issues, ranging from performance management and progressive discipline to workplace investigations, CAS and the resolution of workplace conflict. Senior leadership and strategic planning expertise are required in the following key portfolios:

  • System Staff Development
The ideal candidates will hold a bachelor's degree in human resources management, business or a related field, complemented by a relevant Master's degree and/or a CHRP designation as well as 10 years of progressive human resources experience.  To be considered for the role of Superintendent of Human Resources, you must have relevant experience in fostering and implementing Indigenous & Equity, Diversity & Inclusion frameworks with a proven track record of innovation and impact on an organization-wide scale.  Preferably, you have 5+ years' experience in contract negotiations, grievances, arbitration, collective agreement administration and interpretation, human rights and Ontario Labour Relations Board proceedings, and workplace
harassment investigations in a comparable setting.
