Job Description

Reporting to the Program Director, the successful candidate will provide supervision and leadership regarding SWPH’s initiatives to establish a culture of accountability, innovation and emergency response preparedness in the Health Unit. Additionally, the candidate will work in partnership with staff to foster community partners ability to support their capacity to respond to emergencies with public health implications.   

 

By applying a risk management lens through different stages of emergency response including mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery, the successful candidate will help to position Southwestern Public Health and the communities it serves to respond effectively to a variety of urgent and emergent situations.

 

To be successful, we are looking for a qualified candidate with the following:

 

  • Post-Secondary education in Public Administration, Emergency Management, Municipal Planning, Social Services, or similar discipline.
  • Two (2) years’ prior experience as an Emergency Management Professional.
  • Effective leadership attributes to motivate and develop a relationship with peers and individuals reporting to the position
  • Experience in providing effective consultation towards emergency response management, planning and team leadership.
  • Past experience producing Emergency Response Plans, Continuity of Operations Plans, pandemic plans or their equivalent.
  • Extensive knowledge of the Emergency Management & Civil Protection Act, Occupational Health & Safety Act, and related Legislation and Regulations.
  • Completion of the Provincial CEMC, BEM, IMS certificates
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to communicate effectively with staff, politicians, the public, and allied agencies.
  • Ability to formulate and implement training objectives and public presentations.
  • Effective leadership attributes to motivate and develop a relationship with peers and individuals reporting to the position
  • Valid Ontario Driver’s license and consistent access to a reliable vehicle.
  • A criminal reference check completed within the last six (6) months from a Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC), inclusive of vulnerable sector screening, will be required of the successful candidate.
  • Project management expertise a definite asset.
