Job Description

Grand Erie’s 2800 employees provide quality education to approximately 26,000 full-time equivalent students who attend our 72 schools.  The Board spans a geographic area encompassing the City of Brantford and the Counties of Brant, Haldimand and Norfolk.  The head office is located in Brantford.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • establishing positive relations with school personnel and parents of Six Nations students attending schools for the purpose of enhancing student success rates
  • providing academic and social counselling for students from the Six Nations community
  • providing counselling for students from the Six Nations community who have been referred for issues regarding attendance and lack of student success
  • participating in all Individual Placement and Review Committee meetings conducted for students affected by the education services agreement
  • acting as a resource person and assisting with initiatives of the Six Nations Advisory Committee
  • establishing and maintaining up to date information regarding student entrance, transition from Six Nations schools, retention and success rate in secondary education
  • being responsible for increasing the awareness and sensitivity of school personnel with respect to students attending school
  • travel within the Board’s geographical region is required
  • other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Haudenosaunee ancestry required.
  • Knowledgeable with a demonstrated positive working relationship with the Six Nations Community.
  • Bachelors’ degree in Social Work or Social Studies or an Ontario College of Teachers’ Certificate of Qualification and qualified to teach in guidance and counselling, in accordance with Ministry of Education OR;
  • Five (5) years successful experience in counselling or guidance plus a minimum of a community college diploma in a related discipline with demonstrated evidence of annual progression toward Category One qualification.
